TREASURY ANNOUNCES $162.8 BILLION DEFICIT FOR FISCAL 2007
The Treasury Department last week released the federal government's official deficit
figure for fiscal 2007, announcing a
$162.8
billion shortfall, or about $85 billion less than the $248 billion deficit
recorded for fiscal 2006.

Class
Article I, section 3 of the Constitution requires the Senate to be divided into three classes for purposes of elections. Senators are elected to six-year terms, and every two years the members of one class—approximately one-third of the Senators—face election or reelection. Terms for Senators in Class I expire in 2007, Class II in 2009, and Class III in 2011.

Off-budget entities
The budget authority, outlays, and receipts of certain Federal entities that have been excluded from budget totals under provisions of law. At present, off-budget entities include the Social Security trust funds and the Postal Service.
